Well, I promised that I would link up to a blog which has great pictures and descriptions of different stitches to use when sewing together the babette blocks. I’ve been unable to locate the blog, but I know it is out there. So I offer up this short pictorial to you, which describes the stitch I am using. I tried to look it up in a crochet book I have, and I couldn’t find it. The closest thing I can compare the stitch to is a Mattress Stitch used in knitting. If anyone has anything that would enlighten me on the subject, I would appreciate it. Sorry I haven’t delivered what I’ve promised, but I hope this will suffice for now!
- Here are two blocks that I want to sew together. They are right-side facing.
- I turn the blocks to the wrong side in order to do the stitching
- To begin, I go up through the back loop of the very left most stitch on each block, which happens to be a SC
- My needle is now in position over the topmost square. I move over to the next stitch and through both squares.
- While Threading, I am going through the back loop only of each stitch (so from the picture, it is the top loop of each stitch)
- Here is the final product. While you will have visible dashes on the wrong side of the babette, the right side will be seamless
